FPL Chips Guide: Wildcard, Triple Captain and Bench Boost

The Fantasy Premier League squad rules, how each chip works, and how to time them around double gameweeks.

Published September 10, 2026

Fantasy Premier League squads are 15 players: two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards, built under a 100.0 budget with a maximum of three players per club. Scoring is simple: a goal is six points for a defender, five for a midfielder and four for a forward; an assist is three; a clean sheet is four for goalkeepers and defenders; and goalkeepers earn a point for every three saves.

The chips are the real strategy. You get two Wildcards, one available for the first half of the season and one for the second, letting you rebuild your whole squad without a points hit. The Free Hit lets you change your entire team for one gameweek and revert afterwards, which is perfect for a blank or double gameweek. Triple Captain triples your captain points, and Bench Boost makes all 15 players score.

Timing chips is where leagues are won. Save the Bench Boost and Triple Captain for a double gameweek when a strong team plays twice. Use the Free Hit on the biggest blank gameweek of the season. Save your first Wildcard until you have new information, usually around gameweek eight to twelve. Track the Premier League game at /epl.
