MLB Fantasy Guide: Hitters, Pitchers and Streaming Strategy
The 5x5 categories, why hitters are the safer investment, and how to stream starting pitchers by matchup.

Baseball fantasy runs on two engines: hitters and pitchers. Standard 5x5 roto scores runs, home runs, RBI, stolen bases and batting average on offense, and wins, strikeouts, ERA, WHIP and saves on the mound. Points leagues use a single formula and generally reward innings pitched and strikeouts.
Hitters are the safer investment. Their playing time is stable, and counting stats like runs and RBI depend partly on the lineup around them, so a good hitter on a strong offense gains value. Batting average is volatile, so target hitters with strong contact skills and high walk rates rather than pure sluggers. Pitchers carry more injury risk but also more upside: an ace can win you three categories by himself.
Saves are the scarcest category. Target closers with secure jobs, and stream the rest. Stream starting pitchers by matchup using ballpark and opposing offense: a mid-tier arm facing a weak lineup in a pitcher-friendly park is a fine weekly play, while an ace in a hitter-friendly park can be avoided.
