Snake Draft vs Auction Draft: Strategy for Both Formats

Snake drafts and auction drafts produce very different teams. In a snake draft, teams pick in order and the order reverses every round. The team with the first overall pick waits until the end of the round to pick again, so the key decision is whether the top player is worth the long wait. Because most managers draft from the same rankings, the biggest edge comes from reaching for players you believe in and avoiding runs on a position.

Auction drafts give every manager a budget, commonly 200 dollars, and players are nominated one at a time. The highest bid wins. Nomination strategy is the real skill: nominate players you do not want in order to drain rivals' budgets, and avoid nominating a player you actually want early. Prices are relative, so overpaying for one star leaves you scrambling for cheap starters.
