Streaming Defenses and Kickers in Fantasy Football
Why you should never draft a kicker or defense early, and how to pick weekly matchups that actually score points.

Defenses and kickers are the most streamable positions in fantasy football, which means you should rarely draft them early. A team defense scores on sacks, turnovers, touchdowns and points allowed, all of which swing heavily with the matchup. Streaming means adding a defense each week that faces a weak or turnover-prone offense rather than holding one all season.
The best streaming targets are teams facing rookie or backup quarterbacks, or offenses that allow a high sack rate and turn the ball over. Home games help, especially in loud stadiums, and cold-weather games late in the season suppress scoring. Avoid playing a defense against an elite offense, no matter how good the unit is on paper.
Kickers follow the same logic. Target kickers on strong offenses that move the ball but stall in the red zone, since field goals and extra points drive their points. Dome kickers avoid wind and weather risk, making them safer in December. The practical rule: do not draft a kicker or defense before the last two rounds, and stream both based on the weekly matchup.
